Obituary

Nan Elaine Hite died peacefully in her sleep at home on February 18, 2017. Nan is survived by her husband of 56 years, William "Bill" Hite of Tiffin. Also survived by her three children and spouses, Steve (Leslie) Hite of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mark (Kelly) Hite of Saratoga Spring, NY, and Beth (Brian) Black of Oakland, CA; and eight grandchildren, Harrison Hite, Chloe Hite, Theodore Hite, Leah Hite, Alexander Hite, Riley Hite, Margaret Black and Eleanor Black. Nan is also survived by her sister, Kathy McQuillin of Delta, Ohio.

Nan was born in Delta, Ohio on May 20, 1940 to Howard C. and Phyllis Marie (Floagus) Whitmire and graduated from Delta High School in 1958. She attended Bowling Green State University and earned a BA and Masters in Education from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio. Nan married her high school sweetheart Bill Hite, of Delta, Ohio, on February 25, 1961.

Nan pursued her passion, teaching 8th grade American and 9th grade World history. She imparted a strong belief in the power of history and the political process to her many students. Following her retirement from East Junior High School, Nan went on to teach as an adjunct professor at Heidelberg College. Her career spanned 22 years.

In addition to her academic career, Nan was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tiffin. She was a steadfast Soprano voice in the choir, a church Elder, and a teacher in the Sunday school.

Nan and Bill traveled throughout the US, Europe, and the Middle East.

In retirement, they regularly traveled to visit their children and grandchildren in New York, Minneapolis, and the Northern California Bay area.

Nan was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and "Who's Who among American Teachers". She has a named award in her honor at Tiffin Middle School.

Throughout her life, she was an avid reader with a passion for politics. She was a consummate hostess and entertainer and her smile and spirit will be deeply missed by all her knew her.

A celebration of her life will be Friday, February 24, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church of Tiffin, 96 S. Monroe Street. The church will be open for visitors prior to the service beginning at 9:00 AM.
