Paul J. Arbogast, 90, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday morning, December 23, 2012 at his home.
On September 6, 1922 in Seneca County he was born to Charles A. and Loretta R. (Reinhart) Arbogast. He married Florence S. Clouse on September 7, 1946 in St. Mary Catholic Church and she preceded him in death on August 23, 1988. He later married Lou Ann M. Shultz on October 19, 1990 in St. Joseph Catholic Church and she survives.
Other survivors include three sons; Dean (Mary) Arbogast of New Riegel; Karl (Rosemary) Arbogast of Virginia Beach, VA; Mark (Dorette) Arbogast of O'Fallon, IL; three daughters, Jane (Dan) Gildenmeister of Sandusky; Ruth Hawk of Mt. Eaton; Judy (Ralph) Shearn of Clyde; step-daughters, Debra (Don) Weber of Huron; Nancy Virkler of Findlay; brothers, Lawrence (Marian) Arbogast of Marysville; Urban (Dorothy) Arbogast of Republic; Marion Arbogast of McComb; Harlan (Rosemary) Arbogast of Tiffin; Lester (Eloise) Arbogast of Carey; Louis Arbogast of Fostoria; sisters, Rita Mae (Robert) Kelbley of New Riegel; Marguerite (Eugene) Boes of Alvada; 23 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence; step-son, David Vincent Ardner in 2003; son-in-law, Gary Hawk in 2011 and brothers, Eugene and Joseph Arbogast.
Paul was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and graduated from Hopewell Loudon's first class in 1940. He attended Louisville University in Kentucky and later graduated from Heidelberg College. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII on January 4, 1943 serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre with the 301st and 83rd Naval Construction Battalion. He was proud of his service to his country and was honorably discharged on March 7, 1946.
He began teaching at Hopewell Loudon School and started working with Hossler Construction in Tiffin in 1949 and retired as the Superintendant and Estimator in 1990, dedicating over 40 years of development to the surrounding areas. He was a Scout Master, member of the Knights of Columbus, volunteer and Captain for Clinton Township Fire Department, volunteered for Community Hospice Care, and member of the Am Vets Post 48, and American Legion Post 354 in New Riegel. He enjoyed gardening, playing Euchre, traveling the United States and trips to the casino. Most of all he loved his family and the times they spent together.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, December 28, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the mass. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery with military honors conducted by the United Veteran's Council.
Friends may visit and share stories on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 2-8 pm at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 419-447-2424 where a Wake service will begin at 8:00 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Calvert Catholic Schools or to a charity of the donor's choice.
