Obituary

Paul M. Jones, age 68, of Tiffin, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a courageous seven-year battle with cancer. Born on September 21, 1957, Paul lived a life defined by kindness, service, leadership, and an unwavering devotion to his family and the community he loved so deeply.

Paul was a proud graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School, Class of 1975. Following graduation, he devoted more than 40 years of loyal service to Mercy Hospital of Tiffin, where he was known for his steady work ethic, quiet generosity, and genuine care for every person he encountered.

Paul was the beloved husband of Teresa Jones (Shaferly), and a devoted father to his daughters, Staci Brickner (Andy) and Nikki Hintze. His greatest pride and joy was being "Paw Paw" to his six deeply loved grandchildren: Emma, Gracie, Parker, Gentry, Hattie, and Hazen. He rarely missed a game, a meet, a performance, or a school event, and nothing brought him more happiness than watching his grandchildren grow and succeed.

To the Hopewell-Loudon community, Paul was far more than a coach. Over a remarkable coaching career that spanned more than 30 years, he shaped hundreds of student-athletes through the cross country and track programs. To be a Hopewell-Loudon athlete was to know Paul Jones. He built not only winning programs, but also confidence, discipline, resilience, and character in every athlete who worked alongside him. His legacy within the Hopewell-Loudon girls cross country and track programs is one of excellence, integrity, and lasting impact. Even years after graduating, former athletes continued to return to thank him for the lessons he taught that reached far beyond the course and the track.

Paul's influence extended well beyond athletics. He was a mentor to many, a steady presence in the lives of countless families, and a source of encouragement to anyone who needed it. His kindness was quiet but powerful. His leadership was firm but compassionate. His impact on the Hopewell-Loudon community, and on every life he touched, is impossible to measure.

Paul was also a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin, where his faith guided the way he lived, served, and cared for others throughout his life.

A lifelong lover of animals, Paul found comfort and companionship in his pets. His beloved Winston was often by his side, with Lucy, Trevor, and Shakey always close to his heart as well.

Paul also loved to travel and explore new places with his family. He had a true gift for planning unforgettable family vacations, filling each trip with adventure, laughter, and memories that will be treasured for generations. A devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan, a lover of history, and a friend to all, Paul could always be counted on for a great conversation, a story, or a quiet word of encouragement.

Above all else, Paul was an incredible husband, a remarkable father, and a truly extraordinary grandfather. His love was constant. His support never wavered. His presence brought comfort, strength, and stability to everyone around him.

Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ruehle; his father, Paul Jones; his stepfather, John Ruehle; his brother, Dave Jones; and his sister, Jean Rease; and his brothers, Jimmy and Richard who died in infancy. He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa; his daughters, Staci Brickner (Andy) and Nikki Hintze; his brother, Tim Jones (Gloria); and his six cherished grandchildren, Emma, Gracie, Parker, Gentry, Hattie, and Hazen. Paul leaves behind a lasting legacy of service, leadership, compassion, and love that will continue to live on through his family, his athletes, and the community he served so faithfully.

A special thank you is extended to Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care and support, to Father Coci for his guidance and comfort, and to the entire Hopewell-Loudon community for the overwhelming love, prayers, and support shown to Paul and his family throughout his journey. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Paul's name to Hopewell-Loudon Athletics or St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin, Ohio.
