Obituary

Paul J. Kummerer, Sr., 92 of Tiffin, passed away Saturday evening, March 10, 2012 at his home surrounded by family.

On February 7, 1920 in Carey, Ohio; he was born to Frank and Mary (McLoughlin) Kummerer. He married Arlene Smith on December 5, 1941 and she preceded him in death on December 21, 1976. He then married Kathryn Weaver on July 13, 1979 and she survives.

Survivors include his wife Kate of 32 years, sons, Paul (Susan) Kummerer, Jr. of Raleigh, NC; David (Ann) Kummerer and Richard (Denise) Kummerer both of Tiffin; daughter, Deanna (Thomas) Distel of Tiffin; 3 step-daughters, Brenda (Dennis) Heydinger of New Washington; Cindy (Mike) Smith of Attica; Peggy (Ed) Thames of Forest; a brother, Robert Kummerer of Tigerton, WI; 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and his cat, Alley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Arlene, brothers, Anthony "Andy", Glenn, John, George and James Kummerer and 2 sisters, Dorothy Eileen Collet and Mary Elizabeth Kummerer.

Paul was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was a machinist at National Machinery for 32 years, retiring in 1981. He served with the U.S. Army in Europe during WWII and was a member of the National Machinery Quarter Century Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 402, Moose Lodge 846, and VFW Post 2858. He enjoyed traveling, harness racing, working in his garage, dancing, playing cards and many trips to casinos. Paul will be remembered for his great sense of humor, always playing practical jokes, especially during Halloween when he decorated his home and scared the trick or treaters.

His funeral service will be Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Gary Walters officiating. Burial will follow in Seneca Memory Gardens with military honors conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 from 4-8 PM at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory. The National Machinery Quarter Century Club will meet in body at 7:00 PM.
