Phyllis R. Schmitz, 90, of Tiffin, died Sunday morning, April 12, 2009 at Elmwood at the Shawhan Assisted Living in Tiffin.
On December 24, 1918 in Tiffin, she was born to Sydney and Nora (Stover) Cleveland. She married Frederick J. Schmitz on January 5, 1942.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Judy (Ronald) Elchert of Tiffin; Carol (James) Thompson of Laurelville, OH; 4 grandchildren, Lori (James) Gaietto, Christopher (Kathy) Elchert, Terry (Ashley) Thompson and Toby Thompson, 4 great grandchildren, Zachary and Samantha Gaietto, Kacie and Caden Elchert, and a cousin, Vivian Rogala of Tiffin.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frederick on December 24, 1995 a son, James "Smitty" Schmitz on January 8, 2006, and a sister, Agnes Leisenring.
A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a 1938 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School, she worked at the Tiffin Glass House and retired from General Electric after 26 years. She liked to golf, bowl and loved the Dallas Cowboys.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to mass. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 from 9:30-10:30 AM at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Elmwood at the Shawhan, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
