Ralph S. Fertig, 94, of Tiffin, died Sunday, September 27, 2009, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
He was born December 6, 1914, in Tiffin, to Joshua and Louise (Ballreich) Fertig. June 20, 1937, he married Marie Louise McConnahay and she died in 1981. On December 31, 1982, he married Chloe (Banks) Dewald.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Chloe, two nieces, Shirley Gibson of Bay City, Michigan, Janet Pickering of Sterling, Virginia, a god child, Keith Stoneburger of Upper Sandusky.
Preceding him in death along with his parents and first wife, Marie, are two sisters, Gervace Giles and Genevieve Voshall.
Ralph was a 1932 graduate of Columbian High School and a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He was a US Postal Carrier for 35 years, retiring in 1984. In his early years he was a Boy Scout. He was a member of Masonic Lodge # 77 and the Tiffin Shrine. He was the last surviving member of Steinies Band, and an original member of the Gang Band. He was a member of the Fostoria Barbershoppers and was chosen Barbershopper of the year of 1978.
His Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH, 44883, 419-447-2424, with Rev. Donna Van Trees officiating. His ashes will be interred at Ebenezer United Methodist Church Columbarium at a later date.
Friends may visit with the family 12:00 - 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home.
