Ralph J. Hoover, Jr., 90, of Fostoria, Ohio passed away Wednesday evening, July 13, 2011 at Good Shepherd House in Fostoria, Ohio.
Ralph was born on December 5, 1920 to Ralph J. and Mary E. (Christophory) Hoover in Seneca County and they are deceased. On June 1, 1940 he married Lucille K. (Williams) Hoover and she passed away on November 14, 1994.
Surviving are three sons, James (Ginger) Hoover of Toledo, OH, William J. (Ann) Hoover of Sauharita, AZ and John Hoover of Sommerville, South Carolina; two daughters, Carolyn (Gerry) Pollauf of Fort Myers, Florida and Kathi (Jerry) Windau of Fostoria, Ohio; twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter.
Ralph attended Jackson Liberty High School and served in the United States Army from November 16, 1944 to August 6, 1946. He was a dairy farmer and raised crops, cattle and horses and was very active in the NFO. While farming he worked at Whirlpool Corporation in Clyde, Ohio and later retired from Atlas Crankshaft (Cummins Engine) in Fostoria, Ohio where he was a supervisor and past Chairman of the Union. He was a member of the Tiffin Am Vets Post 48 and the VFW Post 2858. Ralph enjoyed fishing and boating on Lake Erie, playing cards, especially Euchre and Pinochle and enjoyed sports; especially baseball. He was a Cleveland Indians fan and enjoyed traveling.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 4-8 p.m. at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio, (419)447-2424.
A mass of Christian burial will be Monday, July 18, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Wendelin Catholic Church or to the American Cancer Society
