Obituary

Ralph A. "Ha Ha" Smith, 91, of Tiffin, passed away on Wednesday morning, March 8, 2017 at Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria.

He was born on December 13, 1925, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Ralph W. and Pauline (Siegrist) Smith.  On November 12, 1949, he married Lucille J. Lucius and she preceded him in death on March 19, 2007.

Survivors include his seven children, Susan (Tim) Hartschuh of Tiffin, Dianne (Thomas) Coscarelli of Tucson, AZ, Dennis (Rose) Smith of Tiffin, Judy (Peter) Corti of Fountain Hills, AZ,  David (Patti) Smith of Tiffin, Christine Hoar of Rockwall, TX and Laura (Timothy) Daughenbaugh of Tucson, AZ; brother, Joallen (Dorothy) Smith of Tiffin; sister, Betty Deason of Tiffin; 15 grandchildren, Daniel Hartschuh, Tessa Bishop, Laura and David Coscarelli, Anthony, Rev. Philip, Paul, Stephen and Michael Smith, Melissa Sandberg, Tracy Allen, Seth and Anna Hoar and Nicholas and Kyle Daughenbaugh; seven great grandchildren; and special friend, Doris Weinandy.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Mark Hoar; brothers, Wendell, James and Donald; and grandson, Mark Smith.

Ralph worked at various factories in the area before starting Ralph Smith Electric in 1956, which is now Ralph A. Smith & Sons, Inc and continues to be operated by sons, Dennis and David.  He was an electrician for years.  Ralph was a member of the Amvets Post #48, Tiffin V.F.W. Post #2858, American Legion and Tiffin Moose #846.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, boating, archery and bus tours.  He loved the great outdoors, nature and gardening.  Ralph engineered and built his own utility vehicles, was always tinkering with things, had a great sense of humor and often reminded people to "keep smiling."   Ralph was a World War II Navy Veteran having serviced in Europe and the Mediterranean.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Walters and Rev. Philip Smith con-celebrating.  A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.  Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 2-8:00 P.M. on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.  A Christian Wake Service will begin at 1:30 with Rev. Philip Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, St. Mary Catholic Church or to a local veterans group.
