Ralph "Puff" U. Theis Jr., 82, of New Riegel, Ohio, passed away Saturday afternoon, September 21, 2024, at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay, Ohio.
He was born on October 16, 1941, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Ralph and Josephine (Elchert) Theis Sr. On September 4, 1961, he married Barbara Jean Gillig at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Riegel, Ohio.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Theis, of New Riegel; sons, Mark (Melissa) Theis, of New Riegel, Lenny (Robin) Theis, of New Riegel, Scott (Jenny) Theis, of Alvada, Keith (Jennifer) Theis, of New Riegel; daughter, Tina (Pat) Brodman, of Carey; brothers, Darl (Kathy) Theis, of New Riegel, Kenneth Theis, of Tennessee; brother-in-law, Charles Shellhammer, of New Riegel; 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald Theis; sisters, Erma Jean Shellhammer, Diane Elchert; brother-in-law, Joe Elchert; grandson, Zach Brodman.
Puff was a member of All Saints Parish in New Riegel and a 1959 graduate of New Riegel High School. He enjoyed fishing, cutting meat, horse races, farming, euchre, and the Cincinnati Reds. He was a member of New Riegel Moose Lodge, ran the New Riegel Civic Trust Street Fair for 17 years, was on the New Riegel town council, and was a member of the New Riegel Volunteer Firefighters for 40 years. He was his grandchildren and great grandchildren's biggest fan, attending any of their ball games he could. He also enjoyed coaching his children's ball teams. You can probably hear Puff saying, "One more and we'll all leave together."
His Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, September 27, 2024, at All Saints Parish with Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, in New Riegel.
Friends may visit with the family from 3:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, (419) 447-2424.
Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Parish, NBS Fire District, or New Riegel Summer Ball Association.
