Obituary

Richard Edwin 'Dick' Bakies, 76, of Tiffin, died Friday morning, May 7, 2010, at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center.

On October 31, 1933, he was born in Carey to Fred and Gladys (Yingling) Bakies. On January 7, 1957, he married Patricia A. Berry in Angola, IN.

Survivors include a son, Steve (Marcia) Bakies of Tiffin; two daughters, Diane Snavely of TX; Kim (Larry) Walls of Fremont; a sister, Janice Hill of Alvada; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death along with his parents is his wife, Pat, on June 22, 2004; four brothers; Francis, Bill, Donald 'Bud' and Jack Bakies; and three sisters; Margaret 'Tiny' Drunkenmiller; Rita Veres; and Pauline Kistler.

Dick was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and proudly served in the US Marine Corps from 1951-1954, during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Atlas Crankshaft in Fostoria, after 30 years. He owned Pier 6 Lounge for over 10 years and Castle Tavern for 3 years. He was a member of VFW Post 2858, and American Legion Post 169. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and was a fan of The Ohio State University, Cleveland Indians and Browns.


His Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Walters officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by the United Veteran's Council.

Friends may visit with the family 2-4 and 6-8 PM, Monday, May 10, 2010 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH, 44883, 419-447-2424.

Memorial contributions can be made to Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center or Community Hospice Care.
