Richard W. Hoffmann, 88 years old, of Tiffin, died Thursday morning, September 17, 2009, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.
Mr. Hoffmann was born on December 2, 1920 in Tiffin, to J. William and Corrine M. (Burger) Hoffmann. He married Dorothy M. Mosier at St. Mary Catholic Church on May 8, 1943.
Survivors include a son, Jack (Sharon) Hoffmann of Tiffin; 2 grandchildren, Tim Hoffmann of Chicago, IL; and Brad (Becky) Hoffmann of Columbus; and a great grandson, Tyler Hoffmann.
Mr. Hoffmann was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 60 years, Dorothy, on September 30, 2003, and a brother, Tom Hoffmann.
Mr. Hoffmann was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1938 and Cleveland College of Embalming in 1940. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946, aboard a medical ship in the Pacific Ocean. A licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer since 1942, Richard worked in the family funeral home with his father and brother, later running the funeral home until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, Ohio Embalmers Association, Catholic Knights of Ohio, Court #52, New Riegel, Tiffin Eagles Aerie #402, Life member of Tiffin Elks Lodge #94 and Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, September 19, 2009 from 12:00-1:00 PM, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH, 44883, 419-447-2424.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:30 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors conducted by the United Veterans Council.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Mary Catholic Church, Ohio Veteran's Home or to a charity of the donor's choice.
