Obituary

Richard Louis Wagner, 92, formerly of Tiffin, Ohio, and Summerfield, Florida, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls, Iowa.

Dick was born on April 6, 1923, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Edmund J. and Beatrice (Singer) Wagner.

On June 26, 1947, he was united in holy matrimony to Alice Christine Gillig at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tiffin. They were married for 58 years.

Dick served in the United States Army at Camp Lee, Virginia, during World War II.

Richard is survived by his son, Andrew J. Wagner (Lisa) of Rancho Palos Verdes, California, and their children Tyler, Trevor, and Kayla; his daughter, Ann Wagner Longobardi (Joe) of Iowa Falls, Iowa, and their children John, Peter (Sara), and Joey (Megan); three great grandchildren, Carmela, Jack, and McKenna; one sister-in-law, Marge Gillig of Tiffin, as well as several nieces and nephews, and special friend, Audrey Von Osinski of Summerfield, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters Margaret Baker Moore and Helen "Amy" Wagner, sisters-in-law Mary Lou Gillig, Kathleen Gillig Wonderly, and Regina Gillig Maiberger and brothers-in-law Paul Gillig, John "Bud" Wonderly, William "Bill" Jacoby, John Maiberger, James Baker, and Gerald Moore, niece, Nancy Baker Snyder and nephew, Paul Gillig II.

Richard was an innovative entrepreneur involved in everything from car washes to ice cream shops to horse racing. He was a local realtor for over 60 years and developed several sites in Tiffin and the surrounding area.

Richard's gift for making other people laugh is legendary along with his ability for humorous storytelling. He was also an enthusiastic golfer and bowler and is known by his grandchildren as a sly card shark particularly in the game of "Horse Thief".

Richard was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Lodge, and the Nifty Fifty Club.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 Noon on Friday, May 8, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Visitation will be at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424, on Friday, May 8, 2015, from 10:00 - 11:30 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Richard's honor to the charity of the donor's choice.
