Richard J. "Dick" Steyer, 93, of Tiffin, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Mercy Health-Tiffin Hospital.
He was born on June 29, 1923, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Richard and Margaret (Ferstler) Fraley and later adopted by Frank and Mattie (Schorger) Steyer. On January 25, 1946 in Arnold, MO, he married Georgia May McGlaughlin and she preceded him in death on May 17, 2008.
Survivors include his son, Lenard (Pat) Steyer of McCutchenville; daughter, Margaretta (John) Covert of Tiffin; 5 grandchildren, Greg Steyer, Rebecca (Michael) McBride, Kedra (Chris) Fuhrer, Crystal (Harry) Joseph and Jennifer (Joseph) Jordan; 11 great grandchildren; 3 great, great grandchildren; and special niece, Donna "Peachie" Olhert of Imperial, Missouri.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Fraley; and sister, Mary Ellen "Boots" Reinbolt.
Dick served in the United States Army Air Corp, during World War II in the Northern Solomons and Southern Philippines. He retired, in 1990, as a supervisor from Ohio Bell after 43 years and received the Theodore N. Vail Award while working there. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Pioneers (Ohio Bell) Club of Findlay, Tiffin Masonic Lodge #77, Seneca Chapter #42, Clinton Council #47, where he was past Illustrious Master of Clinton Council, Demolay Commandary #9 and past member of the Drill Team. Dick volunteered his time at Habitat for Humanity and Ebenezer Methodist Church where he was also a trustee. He was a handy man and enjoyed gardening, fruit trees, deer hunting, fishing and helping his neighbors.
His funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with Rev. Matt Garrabrant officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 3-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the funeral home. Masonic Services will be at 7:00 P.M.
