Robert E. 'Bob' 'Scooty' Ranker, 85, of Tiffin, died Tuesday morning, May 12, 2009, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
He was the last surviving child of eleven children, born April 7, 1924, in Tiffin to Albert and Elizabeth (Steiner) Ranker.
June 12, 1948, he married Mary Lou Binder in Tiffin.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Lou, of Tiffin, four sons, Patrick Ranker of Santa Fe, NM, Peter Ranker of Winston-Salem, NC, William (Fran) Ranker of Laurel, MD, Andrew Ranker of Rock Hill, SC, a daughter, Beth Colatruglio of Tiffin; eight grandchildren, Brian (Jessica) Colatruglio, Nathan (Jamie) Colatruglio all of Tiffin, Peter (Rebekah) Ranker, Robert (Chrissy) Ranker, Phillip Ranker all of Mocksville, NC, Michael and Jonathon Ranker, Laurel, MD and Beth Ranker, Santa Fe, NM; seven great-grandchildren, Maria and Jack Colatruglio, Joseph and Madelyn Colatruglio, Patrick, Gavin and Lucas Ranker.
Preceding him in death along with his parents are three brothers, Louis, Albert and John Ranker, seven sisters, Margaret Winters, Gertrude Ranker, Florine Birch, Ann Ranker, Catherine Ranker, Mary Alice Ranker and Helen Ranker, and a son-in-law, John Colatruglio.
Bob was a 1942 graduate of Calvert High School, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus 608. He proudly served in the US Army Air Force during WWII from 1943-1946. He visited the AmVets Post 48 and VFW Post 2858 in Tiffin daily. He was a US Post Office letter carrier in Tiffin for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He was a life long fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes, Calvert Senecas, and more recently the Hopewell-Loudon Chieftains.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 16, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with Military Graveside services conducted by the United Veteran's Council.
Friends may visit with the family 4-8 PM, Friday, May 15, 2009 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH, 44883, 419-447-2424. A Christian wake service will be 7:45 PM.
In lieu of memorials, contributions can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Calvert Catholic Schools.
