Robert L. Hepperly, formerly of Tiffin, died, Friday, December 19, 2008, at his residence in Findlay.
On May 4, 1942 he was born to Richard and Helen (Cooley) Hepperly, and Helen survives in Tiffin. On June 17, 1961 he married Patricia Shobe, and she survives.
Survivors include, his mother Helen, his wife Patricia of 47 years, three sons, Todd Hepperly of Mount Blanchard, James Hepperly of Findlay, Robert M. (Christina) Hepperly of Deshler, and a daughter, Ann Kristine (Kyle) Ford of Findlay, a sister, Sharon (Patrick) Huffman of Tiffin, and three nephews, David, Eric, and P.J. He delighted in being the grandfather of eleven grandchildren, Christopher, T.J., Justin, Emily, Ryan, and Shae Golden, Alyssa, Robert B., Chloe, Leigh, and Brandon, and the great-grandfather of one, Makenah.
Preceding him in death is his father, Richard.
Robert graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1960. He proudly served in the United States Army at Fort Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska from 1961 to 1964. He worked for a short time at General Electric in Tiffin, then spent nearly 30 years working for Ohio Bell Telephone Company. He began as a cable splicer, then became a foreman, and then Construction Manager for Tiffin, Findlay, Fostoria and Upper Sandusky. He later retired in 1995. He was also an active member of the Telecom Pioneers, serving as the, "Toys for Tots" chairman. He was to serve as Vice President in 2009. He spent many, many hours in his workshop working on wood projects to raise money for the Pioneers and to give as gifts to friends and family. Besides woodworking, Mr. Hepperly especially enjoyed following all the sporting and school events in which his children and grandchildren participated in. He spent the summers traveling from ball diamond to ball diamond and the autumns cheering from the stands at football games. He also thoroughly enjoyed a good game of Uno with the grandchildren. He always put others first and never failed to serve his family, friends, and his community lovingly and well. His grandson, Ryan, asked that he be remembered as, "The World's Best Grandpa." Robert was also a member of Trinity United Church of Christ.
A funeral service will be at 11am, Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. Entombment will be at a later date with Military Graveside Services conducted by the United Veteran's Council.
Friends may visit with the family, 4 to 7 pm, Monday, December 22, 2008, at the funeral home.
