Robert L. Lutes
Robert "Bob" Lutes, died Wednesday afternoon, October 1, 2008 at his home, after a long illness due to complications from Agent Orange while serving in Vietnam.
On August 5, 1945, he was born to Louise C. Ulman in Tecumseh, Michigan. On April 17, 1971 he married Jean Klein.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Jean; two daughters, Joanna Lutes of Fairfield, and Sara Lutes and fiancAC.e Dereck McQuistion of Adrian, Michigan; one sister Marie (Jack) Humphrey of The Villages, Florida; a sister-in-law, Sharon Lutes, two step-brothers Howard (Susie) Reinhart of Tiffin, Bernard (Norma) Reinhart of Alavda; one step-sister Sally (John) Rumschlag of North Dakota; and one grandchild, Ivana Jean.
Preceding him in death along with his mother, his brother, Eugene "Gene" Lutes, a sister, Diane Miller, and a step-sister, Rita Reinhart.
Bob was a 1963 graduate of New Riegel High School, a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the Army as a Medical Specialist from October 8, 1965 to October 6, 1967; he attended Toledo Andrew Barber College and worked at Varsity Barber Shop as well as American Standard for many years; he later took over Lutes Insurance Company in New Riegel, retiring 35 years later in 2005; Bob also helped farm around the New Riegel area for a number of years. He enjoyed all outdoor activities, especially animals, hunting, fishing, and shooting. He was a member of the Sandusky County Sportsman's Club, Catholic Order of Forester's, Carey Conservation Board, Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association, a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association, as well as New Riegel American Legion Post 354 serving as Post Commander, New Riegel Moose, and the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 34.
A joint Mass of Christian burial for Bob, and his brother Euegene, "Gene" Lutes, is 10am, Monday, October 6, 2008, with the rosary recited 15 minutes prior to the Mass, at All Saints Parish in New Riegel, with Rev. Randy Giesige officiating. Burial is to follow in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in New Riegel.
Friends may visit with the family Sunday, October 5, 2008 from 2-8pm, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, Tiffin, OH, 44883, (419) 447-2424. New Riegel American Legion Post 354 will be conducting a service at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to New Riegel EMS, Circle Tail, 8834 Carey Lane, Pleasant Plain, OH 45162, (a non-profit organization that provides high quality assistance dogs to people with various disabilities and facilitating dogs to retirement centers and for adoption), or to donor's choice.
