Robert Bruce Roush, 85, formerly of rural Bloomville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Seneca House in Tiffin.

He was born September 9, 1929 in Tod Township, Crawford County, the youngest child of Ucebius Angelo and Cora Elizabeth (Mollenkopf) Roush.

Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma; and their five children, Kevin R. (Sharon) Roush and Alan B. (Alice) Roush, both of rural Tiffin, Susan E. (Mark Prater) Roush of Kingston, RI, Robin R. (Steve) Pachuta of Eagan, MN, and Jean J. (Glen) Howard of Swanton; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive, Lauren (Joshua) Seas and their son, Robert; Lesley Roush; Kimberly (Charles) Groth and their children, Neil, Cecilia and Jonathan; Bradley (Ahna) Roush and their son, Cameron; Christopher Prater; David Pachuta; Rebecca Pachuta; Elizabeth Howard and Anthony Howard. Also surviving are step-grandson, Brett (Monica) Romanko; three step-great grandchildren, Kayla Auck, Kyle Romanko and Kambria Romanko; one sister, Roma Shellhouse; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wilbur "Bill" Roush; twin sisters, Wilda Wilkins and Wilma Price Blakkolb; and a sister who died in infancy.

A 1948 graduate of Melmore High School, Bob was always disappointed he had been too young to join his older brother and brothers-in-law in uniform during World War II. So when the United States entered the Korean War, he was quick to volunteer. But rather than Korea, he spent the next three years stationed at Birkenfeld Air Force Base in Germany. While there, he bought a ring for the neighbor girl back home and on January 6, 1954, during a one month furlough, he and Norma Jean Glick were married at the rectory of St. Joseph Parish in Tiffin. They began their married life finishing up Bob's enlistment at Fort Sumter, South Carolina before moving back to Ohio. In 1956, after living briefly at Greenwich, they bought the house north of Chatfield that would be their home for the next fifty-eight years.

Bob worked briefly for Northern Ohio Breeders Association before beginning a 33-year career as a transport driver for Sohio/BP. He also ran Bob's Saw Shop and after his retirement enjoyed several summers working at Richard's Landscaping at New Washington. Outside of work, Bob enjoyed numerous hobbies, including woodworking and woodturning, bee-keeping, and building clocks. If not busy in his shop in the basement, Bob was likely to be found at the kitchen counter deep in a game of solitaire or busy rolling his own cigarettes. In his later years, he even began to share his wife's appreciation of a good book. He and Norma enjoyed traveling, highlighted by two trips to Alaska and numerous fishing trips to Canada and northern Michigan. Bob was also proud to be a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

His funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Bascom with the United Veterans Council conducting services.
