Robert Mark Yager died December 26, 2012 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, losing his struggle with lung cancer. He was a loving husband, best friend, devoted father, proud grandpa and caring dentist.
He was born April 23, 1940 in Bryan, Ohio, to Carl and Elaine Yager who survive in Tiffin. Robert moved to Tiffin with his family in 1946. He graduated from Columbian High School in 1958, received his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Biology from Heidelberg College in 1962 and graduated from The Ohio State Dental School in 1967. Robert married Carol Ann Serafin in 1966 in Neffs, Ohio. They moved to Tiffin in 1967 so Bob could start his private dental practice. He also began serving the dental needs of the current Tiffin Developmental Center at that time.
Roberts parents and wife survive as well as his two daughters, Susan (Bryan) Smith of Tiffin; Angela (Jeff) Bennett of Powell, Ohio; his sister, Sue (Steve) Snavely of Republic; two brothers, Jack (Judy) Yager of Wake Forest, North Carolina and Tom (Andy Baker) Yager of Alexandria, Virginia; grandchildren, Drew, Payge, Brooke and Zayne Smith of Tiffin and Evan and Sydney Bennett of Powell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert had three deceased siblings, Jo Ann Yager, Jerry Yager, and infant, Susan Jane Yager.
Robert had many interests. He loved to golf and fish, attend his grandchildren's activities, root for the Ohio State Buckeyes, and support the city of Tiffin. He was a partner in Crystal Traditions of Tiffin, specifically lending a hand as art designer. He was a past president of the North Central Ohio Dental Society, a member of the Elks Lodge 94, a member of Mohawk Golf Club and past president of Krout School PTO. He was a fraternity brother of the Excelsior Men's Society at Heidelberg and of the Psi Omega dental fraternity at Ohio State. He was a board member of the Tiffin City Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals. He was a past member of the city Architectural Board of Review and was an original board member of the Tiffin Migrant Clinic. Bob was a founder of the Tiffin Columbian Athletic Hall of Fame.
Memorials can be made to Heidelberg University in care of the Robert Yager Pre-Dental Scholarship Fund.
His funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, December 31, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka and Rev. Frank Murd con-celebrating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.
Friends may visit with the family from 2-4:00 P.M. and 6-8:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Wake Service will begin at 8:00 P.M.
