Obituary

Rodney Goodwin High, 83, of Tiffin, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 14, 2010, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.

On April 21, 1927, he was born in Fort Wayne, IN, to Donald R. and Mildred (Goodwin) High. He married Lola Vargo in 1957, and they later divorced. On September 5, 1979, he married Jean E. (Hufford) Anderson.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Jean, two sons, Jeffrey Alan High and Donald Joseph High, both of Toledo; a daughter, Beth Ann (Joe) Boyd of Mansfield; a grandson, Nicholas McKenney; Jean's family; son, Gary C. Anderson of Los Angeles, CA; two granddaughters, Ellie (Jeffrey) Anderson Shawberry and Jacqueline Anderson, and three great-grandsons, Andrew and Zachary Shawberry and Liam Anderson all of Tiffin.

Preceding him in death along with his parents is a sister, Nanette Marie Vaughn.

Rodney spent his early years in Masonic Children's Home in Springfield, OH and graduated from Scott High School and the University of Toledo. Rodney proudly served in the U.S Army in Germany from 1945-1947 during WWII. He became associated with Tiffin Scenic Studios in 1958, as a salesman for 44 years, retiring at age 75. During this period, he became president and owner of the company. Golf, travel and theatre were his major pursuits, as well as music, with an emphasis on jazz and big band. Before becoming visually impaired, he was an avid reader, finally turning to audio books for intellectual stimulation.

He was a member of Old Trinity Episcopal Church, Mohawk Golf and Country Club, Tiffin Lions Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 402, AmVets Post 48, Allen Eiry Senior Center, and BPOE Elks Lodge 94. He was a 28 year member of Tiffin Lodge No. 77, a member of Seneca Chapter 42, Clinton Council 47, DeMolay Commandery No. 9, a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Valley of Toledo, and a member of Zenobia Shrine.


His Memorial Service will be 11:30 AM, Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Old Trinity Episcopal Church, 125 E. Market St., Tiffin, OH, 44883, with Rev. Amy Fallon officiating. Burial will be private at a later date in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 10-11:30 AM, Tuesday, at the church.
