Rev. Dr. Roger D. Perl, 75, of Tiffin, passed away Wednesday evening, December 7, 2011 at St. Francis Home.
On July 14, 1936, in Le Mars, Iowa, he was born to John and Elizabeth (Graupe) Perl. He married Alice "Jeanie" Ziegler on June 14, 1958 in Zion United Church of Christ in Fireside, OH.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanie; two daughters, Amy (Andrew) Kuhn of Crystal Lake, IL and Emily Perl of Baltimore, MD; one brother, Thomas (Martha) Perl of New Orleans; one sister, Betty (Rudolf) Roggenkamp of Vernon, CT; and two grandchildren, Christian Kuhn and Mora Perl.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David Perl.
Roger graduated in 1954 from Rockford High School, Rockford, OH in 1958 from Heidelberg College and in 1961 from Eden Theological Seminary. After being ordained into the ministry, he served Calvary United Church of Christ in Crestline, Ohio from 1961-1968; St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen from 1968-1977; and he was the Northwest Ohio Association Minister from 1977-1996. After retiring in 1996, he worked in the national offices in Cleveland and as the Interim Conference Minister for the Indiana Kentucky conference of the United Church of Christ. He was Chair and on the Board of Back Bay Mission for 10 years and served on the Board of Trustees for Defiance College for 28 years.
Roger enjoyed gardening, traveling, being involved at Trinity United Church of Christ and loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity United Church of Christ with Rev. Dr. Louis Dorsch and Rev. Daniel Busch officiating. Burial will be private in Zion Fireside Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 from 2-4:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, 131 E. Perry St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883.
