Obituary

Ronald "Ron" George Elchert, 84, of Tiffin, passed away on Thursday evening, March 06, 2025 at Mercy Health-Tiffin Hospital.

He was born on July 31, 1940, in New Riegel, Ohio, to Louis E. and Irene B. (Schalk) Elchert.  On January 20, 1962, he married Judith Schmitz.

Survivors include his wife, Judith Elchert of Tiffin; daughter, Lori (Gary) Lucius of Tiffin; son, Chris (Beth Paradiso) Elchert of Tiffin; siblings, Alton "Maverick" (Joanne) Elchert of Tiffin, Wilbur Elchert of Fostoria, Anita Marovich of Tiffin, Dalene (George) Reinhart of Port Clinton, Howard (Maryann) Elchert of New Riegel, Glenn (Sharon) Elchert of Fostoria, Larry (Donna) Elchert of Bascom, Carole (Phil) Sugden of Findlay, Russell (Ann) Elchert of New Riegel, Florence (Robert) Funk of Grand Rapids, MI and Theresa (William) Allen of Forrest; sister-in-law, Donna Elchert of New Riegel; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Norman Elchert, Duane Elchert and Vern Elchert; brother-in-law, Joseph Marovich; and sister-in-law, Jean Elchert.

Ron was a manager at Foodtown for 46 years.  The last 35 years were spent in Fremont.  He was a people person, well respected store manager and well liked by all his cutomers.  He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin Eagles #406, Tiffin Moose Lodge #846 and the Knights of Columbus #608.  He enjoyed going to the tractor pulls in Bowling Green.  He also enjoyed going to the races at Mid-Ohio.  Ron loved going on bus trips with Judy and walking all over Tiffin with her.    He enjoyed being outdoors, especially canoeing.  He was a Miami Dolphins fan and he enjoyed playing euchre with his family and was an avid beer drinker.  Well known for his sense of humor, Ron was a jokester, always playing practical jokes on people.  Family was important to Ron, he was close with all his siblings and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

His Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Matthew Rader officiating.  A Rosary will prayed 30 minutes prior to Mass.  Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 4-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or to Heartland Hospice.
