Rosemarie Johanna Ludwig, 90, of Sycamore, passed away Friday, March 13, 2026, at her home.
She was born on May 27, 1935, in Bavaria, Germany. In 1954, she married George Ludwig and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sons, Thomas (Nancy) Ludwig of Tiffin, Richard (Annette) Ludwig of Sycamore and Josef Ludwig of Upper Sandusky; daughters, Anita Ludwig of Sycamore, Janet (Paul) McClucas of Summerset, PA, Marilyn Ludwig of Tiffin and Susan Ludwig of Upper Sandusky; brothers, Josef Peterandel and Manfred Peterandel both of Germany; sisters, Dorothe Wilhelmini of Germany and Margaret Warron of Louisville, KY; 16 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and 8 great, great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Lars E. Ludwig; daughter, Margaret Ann Ludwig; grandson, Tim; granddaughter, Christina Marie; great grandson, Michael.
Rosemarie met George in Munich and moved to the United States at the age of 19. While in Germany she worked as a pediatrician assistant and when she moved to the United States, she worked at Heidelberg University for over 10 years as a baker. After Heidelberg, she helped her friends, Claire and Mick, with childcare, who became her adopted family, then their 3 children and grandchildren, and was a stay-at-home mother. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening, pulling weeds and helping flowers grow. Rosemarie loved teaching her grandchildren the Lord’s Prayer in German, and baking. Her great grandchildren called her “Oma”. To all her family, Ich liebe dich….I love you!
There will be a graveside service at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Pleasant View Cemetery, with Rev. Evarist Miku Massawe officiating.
The family will hold a celebration of life on her upcoming birthday in May.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Children’s Hospital, or Calvert Catholic Schools Scholarship Program.
Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
