Obituary

Samuel Robert McKinney, Sr. 95, of Tiffin, died Saturday morning, March 22, 2008 at Ruffing Family Care Center in Tiffin. He was born October 24, 1912 in Tiffin to the late Raymond B. and May M. (Bruning) McKinney. On June 17, 1947 he married Mary Shipley at the home of her brother, Barron W. Shipley in Meyersdale, PA. She preceded him in death March 21, 2006. Surviving is a son, Samuel R. McKinney, Jr. and his wife Linda of Findlay; granddaughter, Ashley E. McKinney of Wisconson. A brother, William H. McKinney and sister, Eleanor Linkert is deceased. Nieces and nephews reside in Pennsylvania, California, and Georgia.

Mr. McKinney graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1930 and from Adelbert College, Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH with an AB Degree in 1934 with honors. He graduated from Law School, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH with an LLB degree in 1937. He then started his private practice in Tiffin.

Mr. McKinney served as Lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve on active duty for 4 years (1941-1945) with 2 years service in the South Pacific. Upon his return, he again set up his private law practice in Tiffin.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tiffin, serving on many boards. He was a member of the Ohio and Seneca County Bar Assoc. He was active in Republican politics, serving on the Board of Elections. For many years, he was a Rotarian, a member of the YMCA Board of Trustees, Allen Eiry Board, and of the Public Library Board of Trustees. He belonged to the Blue Lodge and the Scottish Rite of the Masons. In college he was a Phi Gamma Delta member.

There will be no visitation or memorial service open to the public. A private family memorial service will be at a later date. At his request, his body was donated to science.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Tiffin.
