SARA KATHRYN STEARNS

Sara Kathryn Stearns, 79, of Tiffin, died Monday evening, September 15, 2008 at her home.

She was born September 5, 1929 in Vincennes, IN. Her first adoptive parents were Arthur and Anna O'Donnell of Vincennes. Mr. O'Donnell died within 5 months and Mrs. O'Donnell was killed in an accident in 1937. Sara was then adopted by Lloyd and Eva Webster of Sandusky, both are deceased.

December 19, 1954 she married David R. Stearns. He survives along with sons Eric (Linda) of Tiffin, Craig of Greenfield, IN and a grandson, Matthew of Tiffin, his twin sister, Hannah is deceased.

Sara was a graduate of Sandusky High School, 1947 and Heidelberg College in 1951 with additional studies at Bowling Green State University and Findlay College. Of her 32 years of elementary teaching, 4 years were in Sandusky with 28 years in the Tiffin Public School System. After retirement, she continued to substitute and tutor for many years.

She served as president of AAUW (American Association of University Women), Penthouse and Tiffin Shrine Ladies. Other memberships include Delta Kappa Gama, Republican Women and Seneca County Retired Teachers.

Her body has been cremated. There will be visitation on Friday, September 19, 2008 from 4-8 PM at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., 419-447-2424.

For all who knew her and understood her love of telling stories and jokes, the family invites you to a Celebration of Life and luncheon honoring Sara K. Stearns on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 1:00 PM at C. A. Krout Elementary School Gymnasium. Burial will be private at Milan Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to CASA, 21 Court St., Tiffin, OH 44883, or to Shriners Hospital Chicago, IL.
