Obituary

Steven A. Durst, 70, of Tiffin, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2014 at The Toledo Hospital. He was born on June 26, 1944 in Seneca County to John and Beulah (Thallman) Durst.

Survivors include his children; Michelle (Tom) Keating of Fremont; Mark (Courtney) Weiker of Columbus; Lindsay (Brent) Denny of Sylvania; Joy (Bill) Gallagher of Avon Lake; brother, Larry Durst of Alaska; sisters, Brenda (Steven) Hickman and Connie Aldrich both of Tiffin; and nine grandchildren, Shelby, Parker, Zachary, Zoe, Connor, Grace, Sean, Kennedy, and Weston.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Steve was a member of Bascom United Methodist Church and a 1963 graduate of Hopewell Loudon High School. He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1966 and was honorably discharged on Oct 21, 1971. He attended Andrew Toledo Barber College and worked as a barber at Westgate in Tiffin after receiving his license in 1968. Steve also worked at Atlas Crankshaft in Fostoria, Rockwell Automation in Kenton, then returned and later retired from Atlas (Cummins) in Fostoria. He was a Union Steward for UAW Local # 336, member of the Tiffin Moose Lodge 846, Izaac Walton League, and was a volunteer firefighter for the Bascom Fire Department for several years. In addition to spending time with his children and grandchildren, Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and being outdoors as much as possible. He also enjoyed reading, Ohio history, WWII history, watching NASCAR and cheering on The Ohio State University Buckeyes.

A funeral service will be Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 10am at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory with Terry Steinhauer officiating. Burial will follow in Sandridge Cemetery in Bascom.

Friends may visit and share stories on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 at the funeral home.
