Obituary

Steven James Phillips, 74, of Bloomville, passed away on Sunday evening, June 29, 2025, at Bridge Hospice Findlay Care Center.

He was born July 20, 1950, to James A. and Patricia E. (Turner) Phillips. On Sept. 21, 2001, he married Deborah "Deb" Bourn.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah Phillips of Bloomville; son, Ryan (Casei) Phillips and daughter, Lindsay (Patrick) West both of Reynoldsburg, OH; step sons, Ben (Christie) Starkweather of New Bern, NC, and Daniel (Julie) Starkweather of Columbus, OH; step daughter, Mary Jo Malstaff of South Bend, IN; brother, Tom Phillips of Tiffin; five sisters, Susan Phillips of Tiffin, Mary (Bill) Cook of Bascom, and Anne (Jack) Distel, Julie (Ron) Hersh and Lori Hoppes, all of Tiffin; 11 grandchildren: Baylie, Tucker and Lily Phillips, Ryan and Emma West, Owen (Haylee) Starkweather, Evan, Ivan, Carter and Colton Starkweather, and Kayleigh Malstaff; one great granddaughter, Opal Starkweather; and his dog, Ziva.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Melissa Ann Phillips.

Steve graduated in 1968 from Tiffin Calvert High School and was the Captain of Crew 2 for the City of Tiffin Fire Department, retiring in 1995 with over 20 years of service. Steve was a HazMat instructor for the State of Ohio Fire Marshall and taught training classes at the State Fire Academy. He also volunteered as a firefighter with the Village of Bascom. Steve proudly served 24 years in the Ohio National Guard, including two weeks in Honduras engineering a clean fresh water supply for a local community. Steve enjoyed woodcarving, reading, hunting and fishing as well as supporting his kids and grandkids at sporting events. Steve will be remembered for his deep voice and joking around with family and friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life on August 09, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at the Bloomville American Legion Caufield Post 434.

Memorial contributions may be made to Toys for Tots of Seneca County or Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
