Thomas B. "Tom" "Bissel" Burns, 87, passed away Monday afternoon, April 21, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on March 23, 1927, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Edward T. "Pepper" and Helen (Baumgardner) Burns. He married Patricia E. Brickner and they later divorced.
Survivors include 5 sons, Tom Burns, Kevin (Kathy) Burns, Dan (Kim) Burns, Ken (Penny) Burns and Roger Burns, all of Tiffin; daughter, Jane (Mike) Rohe of Bloomville; 1 brother, Richard (Nancy) Burns of Sarasota, FL; sister, Carolyn Hoover of Tiffin; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Mark Burns in 1982; brothers, Alan, Paul, Gene and Bucky Burns; and close friend, Rosie Lofay.
Tom was in the United States Army from December 13, 1945 to December 23, 1946 during World War II He worked at American Standard for over 20 years and owned the Bar Lunch at Six's Corners for a few years. Tom was a member of the V.F.W. Tiffin Post #2858 and enjoyed playing softball and euchre, hunting and socializing with his friends and family.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, April 25, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Walters officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the United Veterans Council. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.
Friends may visit with the family from 4-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice Care, V.F.W or St. Mary Catholic Church.
