Verena C. Funkhouser, 94, of Tiffin, died Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
January 19, 1914, she was born in Tiffin, to Albert H. and Cordelia L. (Krebs) Gurney. June 11, 1935, she married Neal A. Funkhouser in St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include three sons, Richard N. (Betty J.) Funkhouser of Vanlue, Kenneth W. (Connie K.) Funkhouser of Sycamore, James E. (Beverly S.) Funkhouser of Tiffin, a daughter, Patricia Ann Betts of Tiffin, ten grandchildren, Joseph, Neal, Rea, Janelle, Rodney, Mark, Brian, Christopher, Robert W. and Michael P., and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death along with her husband, Neal, in 1974, are two sisters, Johanna Mae Funkhouser in 2005, Mary Alice Zimmer in 2003 and a brother, George E. Gurney in 1946.
Verena was a 1932 graduate of Calvert High School, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, its Rosary Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella and St. Francis Home Auxiliary. She was a member of General Electric Quarter Century Club retiring after 30 years as a winder.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, January 9, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 15 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family 4-8 PM, Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH, 44883, 419-447-2424.
Memorial contributions can be made to Community Hospice Care or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
