Vernon Kies "Vern" died on September 28, 2008 at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

He was born on October 13, 1915 in Spencerville, Ohio to Ida Mae and George Henry Kies. He was married to Gertrude Marie Strong on July 31, 1937. They were married 66 years when "Gertie" passed away in October 2002.

They have four children, Ronald Kies of Tiffin; Jack Kies of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Diana Magers of Almont, Colorado; and Carol Ogilvie of Orange, California.

They had 7 grandchildren and 2 are deceased, Bradley Karr Kies and Ronda Kies and have 7 great grandchildren.

Vernon worked at General Electric as a mechanical engineer both in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Tiffin, Ohio for a total of 42 years. He was a graduate of the GE Tool & Die program.

In addition to his full time career at GE, he was a gentleman farmer on his farm outside of Republic, where he lived for over 50 years. He did not retire from farming until he was 82. Then he and Gertie moved to Tiffin where he has resided ever since.

A Celebration of Vern's Life will be Saturday, October 4, 2008 where a gathering with the family will be from 12:30 until the time of service at 2:00 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883. 419-447-2424. Burial will be private in St. Jacobs Cemetery in Republic.
