Vincent C. Steinmetz, 80, of rural Tiffin, died Tuesday morning, March 18, 2008, at his residence. On April 20, 1927, he was born in Seneca County to Leo M. and Eulalia G. (Mathias) Steinmetz. On April 30, 1949, he married Yvonne G. 'Bonnie' Bollinger.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Bonnie, five sons, Paul R. Steinmetz of Tiffin, James M. Steinmetz of Carey, Thomas L. (Rita) Steinmetz of Kansas, Stephen L. Steinmetz and Larry F. Steinmetz, both of Tiffin, a daughter, Mary Ellen (Bill) Snyder of Tiffin, a brother, Melvin L. Steinmetz of Toledo, three sisters, Maxine Schultz of St. Stephens, Carolyn (Melvin) Frank and La Donna (Richard) Klingshirn, both of Tiffin, eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and his beloved dog 'Missy'.
Preceding him in death along with his parents is a brother, Richard M. 'Dicky' Steinmetz and a great-grandson.
Vincent was a graduate of Hopewell Loudon High School and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII.
He was a retired farmer and truck driver for Central Transport. He attended every auction he could and continued helping his children farm even after he retired. He was a member of VFW Post 2858, , American Legion Post 169, Disabled American Veterans and a past member of Tiffin Moose Lodge 846.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM, Friday, March 21, 2008, at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. David Ross officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 15 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with Military Graveside services conducted by the United Veteran's Council.
Friends may visit with the family 4-8 PM, Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH, 44883, 419-447-2424.
Memorial contributions can be made to Community Hospice Care or St. Mary Catholic Church.
