Virginia LaFontaine, 87, of Tiffin, died Thursday evening, September 18, 2008, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.
On August 30, 1921, she was born in Bowling Green to Cloyce E. and Mary (Storeholder) Grover. On March 21, 1942, she married George LaFontaine in St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruth LaFontaine of Pasadena, MD, three brothers, Robert (Irene) Grover of Republic, Carl (Mary Alice) Grover of Tiffin, Richard (Lucy) Grover of McDonaugh, GA, three sisters, Alice Williams of North Royalton, Dolores Grover of Findlay, Suzanne (Ramon) Huffman of Tiffin, two grandsons, Richard (Kara) Swartz of Ft. Gordon (Augusta) GA, Craig (Sandra) Swartz of Tiffin, 6 great-grandchildren Hanna and Sarah Swartz, Michael Robert, Samantha and Timothy Swartz and a special nephew Chuck Grover.
Preceding her in death along with her parents and husband, George, on August 17, 2005, is a daughter, Darlene Swartz, on April 5, 2008, a brother, Mark Grover, two infant brothers, a sister, Sara Eicher and an infant sister, Mary Joyce Grover.
Virginia was a 1940 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rosary Altar Society and Legion of Mary. She worked as a winder at GE for 38 years, until the Tiffin plant closed, serving as a union officer and president of the Quarter Century Club. She was a member of New Life Heart Club and Gray Ladies at Mercy Hospital. She and her husband traveled the world visiting children in the Armed Forces extensively in Europe. She visited the Orient for 6 weeks sightseeing in Korea, Hong Kong, Taipei and Japan. Most recently, she traveled to Ireland with her daughter for her 85th birthday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Monday, September 22, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 15 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family 2-5 PM, Sunday, September 21, 2008, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH, 44883, 419-447-2424. A Rosary will be prayed at 2:00 PM.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
