Virginia L. Mathews, 88, of Tiffin, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at her home.

She was born on February 16, 1927, in Wayne, Ohio, to William and Cleo (Stein) Hunt. On July 5, 1944, she married Robert Elchert and he preceded her in death in January of 1974. On October 18, 1974, she married Ray Mathews and he survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Bill (Debbie) Elchert and John (Michelle) Elchert, both of Tiffin; two daughters, Bonnie (Louie) Aiello and Roberta Elchert, both of Tiffin; sister, Rosalie (Richard) Haneberg of Fostoria; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and 6 great, great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two infant sons, James Joseph Elchert and Robert James Elchert; daughter, Beverly Baker in 1990; brother, John Hunt; sister, Frances Lambright; one granddaughter; one grandson; and two great, great grandsons.

Virginia was a member of the Crystal Ball Grandmother's Club where she was the past "Grandmother of the Year." She was also a member of the Tiffin Eagles Ladies Auxiliary # 402, held local and state offices and was inducted into the State Eagles Hall of Fame. Virginia enjoyed crocheting, baking and decorating cakes, arts and crafts and was a Jeff Gordon fan. She also enjoyed traveling in her motor home throughout the United States.

Her funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 3, 2015 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with her daughter-in-law, Debbie Elchert officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 2-4:00 P.M. and 6-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the funeral home.
