Obituary

Wayne Zahn said goodbye to his family and friends on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at St. Francis Home.

He was born in Carey, Ohio on November 18, 1924 to Norman and Marguerite (Simonis) Zahn.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Kurtz) Zahn and 3 children, Jeffrey (Catherine) Zahn of Toronto, Michael (Deborah) Zahn of Hamilton, New York and Christine Morris of Columbus; and 8 grandchildren.

After eight years at Our Lady of Consolation School in Carey, Ohio, he graduated from Carey High School in 1942 where he was president of his class and was very active in sports. He entered the V-12 program at Bowling Green University where he played football and basketball. He received his naval commission from Columbia University and spent two years in the Mediterranean. After the war ended he entered Case University where he was a star football player in which he received many awards.

On July 15, 1947, he married Virginia Kurtz. After graduating from Case University, he joined National Machinery Company in 1949 where he later became president of the company; retiring in 1984.
Wayne was active in the building of the Tiffin YMCA Rec. Center and active at Tiffin University where he was instrumental in the building of Zahn Hall. He served on the board at Heidelberg, Tiffin University, Mohawk Golf Club and was also a member of the Tiffin Elks Lodge #94.

His wife, Virginia resides at St. Francis Villa. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

His Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 3, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. There will be no burial at this time.

Friends may visit with the family from 9-10:30 A.M. on Monday, March 3, 2014 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tiffin University Scholarship Fund or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
