Willard Eugene Coffman, 79, went to be with his Lord, in Mercy Tiffin Hospital on Friday, May 30, 2014.
He was born October 29, 1934, in Tiffin, Ohio, to John and Melva (Feasel) Coffman. He married Alice (Beaston) Coffman on June 12, 1960.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; daughter, Rebecca (Dave Farris) of Tiffin; son, Timothy (Judy) Coffman of McDonough, GA; grandson, Ryan (Tiffany) Ladd; great granddaughter, Madison Rose Ladd; and 2 brothers, James (Carol Coffman and John (Virginia) Coffman.
He attended Old Fort School after which he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. As an AAA Automatic Weapons Batteryman, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal. He served in the Korean Conflict and was discharged on June 15, 1957. Willard worked heavy construction over 40 years traveling from Tiffin throughout northwest Ohio. He was known in the neighborhood as the Mayor of County Road 38. He rode his bicycle up and down the road checking on all the residents. One of his unique characteristics was the ability to talk to anyone; he never met a stranger. The love of his was his family; especially his great granddaughter, Madison. He was the best provider anyone could ask for.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Tiffin Moose Lodge #846 and the Laborers Union.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 6 brothers, Richard, George, Clarence, Raymond, Martin and William; and 3 sisters, Alice Shaull, Emma Mae Scott and Margaret Jean, as a young child.
His funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. Burial will follow in Egberts Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Friends may visit with the family from 3-5:00 P.M. and 6-8:00 P.M. on Monday, June 2, 2014 at the funeral home and also from 10 A.M. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
