William M. (Bill) Elchert, 60, of 1573 Millwheel Drive, Salisbury, N.C. 28146, and formerly of New Riegel, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at his home.


He was born June 25, 1950, to Rose M. (Scherger) and Frederick V. Elchert Sr. He married Virginia (Ginny) Lonsway April 4, 1970, in New Riegel.

He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He worked at Autolite in Fostoria from 1978 until 1992.


He is survived by his wife, Ginny, and two sons, Bryan of Beaver Dam, Ariz., and Scott (Tiffany) of Oakton, Va. He also is survived by his father, Frederick V. (Anna) Elchert Sr. of New Riegel, his brother, Frederick (Brenda) Elchert Jr., of New Riegel, sisters Jane (Robert) Clouse, Rose Ann (Tim) Cornett and Ruth (Robert) Wade of Tiffin, and Lori (Chuck) Austerberry of Chesaning, Mich.


He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose M. (Scherger) Elchert.


The funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010 at All Saints Parish, New Riegel; with Rev. Gary Walters officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the New Riegel American Legion following the mass. There will be no visitation.


Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.


There will be a life celebration luncheon immediately following the Mass at the American Legion, New Riegel.
