William A. "Bill" Lake, 89, of Tiffin, passed away Monday afternoon, January 21, 2013 at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center.
He was born on August 3, 1923, in Tiffin, to Amos W. and Ada (Aller) Lake. On August 24, 1946, in Fremont, Ohio he married Dorothy J. Straub.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; 3 daughters, Charlene (Tim) Wilson of Republic, Mary (Dennis) Kerlin of Tiffin, Vivian Davenport of Crossville, TN; 2 sisters, Glee Ova Everetts of Florida and Emma (Harlan) Kuhn of Tiffin; 7 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; infant son, James Lake; daughter, Violet Lake; and 1 granddaughter.
Bill served in the United States Navy during World War II from October 27, 1942 to December 4, 1945. After returning from the War, he was a construction worker and retired, after many years, from Local 574 in Marion. He was a member of the V.F.W. 2858 and was Post Commander from 1997-1998 and also belonged to the V.F.W. Military Order of the Cootie. He also was a member of the National Association Civilian Conservation Corporation Alumni. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling playing euchre and loved doing yardwork.
His funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 25, 2013 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with Rev. David Raulston officiating. Burial will follow in Seneca Memory Gardens with military honors being conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Friends may visit with the family from 5-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the funeral home.
