William (Bill) C. Martin passed away peacefully in the company of family at his home on Sunday, February 28, 2016 after a long illness.
He was born March 4, 1930 to Fred and Edna Tilton Martin. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Ireta Slingwine Martin; one daughter, Melissa and Chris Porter of Asheville, NC; one son, Scott and Jana Martin of Tiffin, OH; three grandchildren, Addison and Kennedy Porter and Tyler Joseph Martin (TJ.)
Bill is the last of ten children, four brothers deceased, Edward, James, Richard and Robert Martin; five sisters deceased, Edith (Gibson) Hunter, Mary Spraggins, Evelyn Hunter, Vern Murphy and JoAnn Fritz; Sisters-in-laws, Ruth, Frieda and Jean Martin; brothers-in-laws, Carl Spraggins, Herbert Hunter, Robert Murphy, and Robert Fritz.
He worked at Basic Refractories for 25 years and Mercy Hospital for 16 years. Bill was a proud member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Tiffin AmVets Post #48. He was a United States Veteran serving in the Army from 1951-1953 stationed in Japan during the Korean War.
Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, painting and shopping; which he passed on to his children. He was also an avid Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes fan rarely missing a game on TV. His most important love however was the love for all of his family including brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
His Funeral Service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Friends may visit with the family from 6-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian Wake Service will begin at 8:00 P.M.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to Community Hospice Care.
