Van Camp Sr
July 4, 1927 – April 25, 2011
William E. Van Camp, 83, of Tiffin, passed away Monday morning, April 25, 2011 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.
On July 4, 1927 in Tiffin, he was born to Charles R. and Ethel C. (Borer) Van Camp. He married Donna Welter on October 6, 1951.
Survivors include his wife, Donna of 59 years; daughter, Barbara A. (Robert) Epstein of Toledo; sons, William E. (Deborah) Van Camp Jr. of Tiffin; James R. (Lynne) Van Camp of Bloomville; brother, Jerry (Millie) Van Camp of Quitman, MS; 5 grandchildren, Andrew and Elizabeth Van Camp, Michael and Matthew Epstein, and Johnathan Van Camp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charles Van Camp; sisters, Lois Walland, Alice Martin, Mariam McCall, and Joyce Wade.
William was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a 1945 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 6, 1945, serving in Europe as an MP. He was honorably discharged on March 12, 1947. His career started with American Standard while in high school and continued after serving his country until 1990. He retired as a foreman from the casting shop after 45 years. He was a member of the K of C, enjoyed golfing, walking, reading, traveling and having coffee with friends. William was a Cleveland Indians and The Ohio State University Fan and enjoyed following all the grandchildren over the years with their sports.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, April 29, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating where a Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, April 28, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory. A Christian Wake will be at 1:45 pm at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Home Away From Home; an organization that offers accommodations for families who live out of town.
The family would like to thank St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Neurological Intensive Care and Palliative/Comfort Care Units for their care and kindness.
