Obituary

Winifred "Winnie" V. Hartsel, 95, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday afternoon, January 6, 2019 at Mercy Health-Tiffin Hospital.

On February 1, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio, she was born to George and Vennetta (Varnes) Schoepe.  She married Donald R. Hartsel on May 4, 1946 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cleveland and he preceded her in death in 2008.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen (Denny) Miller of Tiffin; Vennetta (Steve Altmeyer) Mullins of Sycamore; four sons, Tim (Dorothy) Hartsel, David (Barb) Hartsel, Guy Hartsel, and Scott (Vicki) Hartsel all of Tiffin; daughter-in-law, Prapit Hartsel of Texas; 19 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Don Hartsel, Jr.; brother, George Schoepe II; and two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Vivino and Kael Miller.

Winnie graduated from Parma Schaaf High School in 1942 and furthered her education at Dyke and Spencerian College and later attended Tiffin University.  In 1960, Winnie and Don moved from Cleveland to Tiffin where she started working for Data Documents in 1967 as the Office Manager, later retiring after 15 years.  Throughout her life, Winnie enjoyed playing golf, painting with oils, traveling, bowling and playing cards.  She volunteered at Mercy Hospital and as a Cub Scout Master of Troop 444 for many years.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin Moose, Allen Eiry Senior Center, Red Hat Society and the Emblem Club.

Her Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit and share stories with the family on Thursday at the Church from 9:30 A.M. until the time of Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Allen Eiry Senior Center or to the Humane Society of  Seneca County.
