Yvonne Avalon (Stover) Simmons, 87, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at St. Francis Home.

She was born September 26, 1923, in Toledo, to Dow L. and Thelma (Seislove) Stover. She married Joseph T. Simmons, Jr., on June 20, 1942, in St. Mary Catholic Church. After more than 60 years of marriage, Joseph passed away March 19, 2003.

Surviving Yvonne are two children, Barb Simmons and Tom Simmons, both of Tiffin; two grandchildren, Kim (Kevin) Agerter and Wade (Carole) Breidenbach, both of Tiffin; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Agerter, Sara Agerter, Erikka Breidenbach and Hunter Breidenbach, all of Tiffin; and two great-great-grandsons, Jayson and Cameron Agerter of Lee's Summit, Missouri.

She also leaves many special friends and relatives, especially her beloved aunt, Vera Burgderfer; and her best friend since school days, Beverly Lemon.

Yvonne and Joseph kept in touch with many people they had met during WWII, and made many friends in Tiffin as the years progressed. Vonnie and Joe loved to go dancing with their friends. Everyone who knew Yvonne was touched by her kindness and caring. Yvonne was the perfect model of what a wife, mother, grandparent and friend should be. She loved her husband, children and grandchildren very much.

Yvonne was a 1942 graduate of Columbian High School and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She was always proud of being a snare drummer in the Girl's Drum and Bugle Corps for 4 years. She served on the Board of Elections for many years and was bookkeeper for Tiffin Machine and Auto Parts for 15 years. She was the best brownie baker around.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 PM, Friday, December 31, 2010, at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Walters officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Yvonne preferred donations be made to FACT, Community Hospice Care or the Seneca County Humane Society.
