A. Fredericka Larsen Obituary

A. Fredericka “Freddie” Larsen, 84, of Tiffin, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020 at St. Francis Home.

She was born on January 17, 1936, in Cambridge, NY to Ralph Waldo and Freda (Harper) Matteson.  On September 7, 1957, in Grand Rapids, MI, she married Gary Allen Larsen and he preceded her in death on December 22, 2010.

Survivors include her son, Gary W. (Susan) Larsen of Fairbanks, Alaska; daughters, Janice Sue (Michael) Gonzalez of Chickasha, OK and Sandy (Matthew) Witmer of Seville; sisters, Betty Foote of Harrison, MI, Roberta Roberson of CA and Aurelia Gillett of Saranac, MI; 15 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Freddie obtained her RN degree from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Hancock, MI and later graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Heidelberg College.  She spent the majority of her working life as the director of WSOS Head Start.   Freddie co-founded the local chapter of the League of Women Voters in 1970, served as the local LWV President three times and as a Vice-President for the League of Women Voters of Ohio.  She was the first female president of the Tiffin-Seneca United Way.  Freddie was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, where she served as the first female President of the Church Council and sang in the choir.  She was awarded the Women’s Career Excellence Award, sponsored by the Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce, for her professional accomplishments.  She enjoyed sewing clothes, tote bags, and liked downhill and cross country skiing.  She traveled extensively with her husband Gary to Europe, Manila, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and much of the United States.  Freddie was proud of her children and her children were proud of all her accomplishments.

Her Memorial Service will be at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, October 12, 2020 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 131 E. Perry Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 with Rev. David A. Voll officiating.  Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 P.M until the time of the Service at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ or to Tiffin-Seneca United Way.
