Alice M. (Schlachter) Smith

Alice M. Smith, 81, of New Riegel, passed away on Tuesday morning, May 26, 2020 at Independence House, Fostoria.

She was born on August 13, 1938, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Virgil and Audrey (Spitler) Schlachter.  On August 1, 1959, in St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Frenchtown, she married Donald F. Smith.

Survivors include her sons, Ronald (Dar) Smith and Gerald (Dottie) Smith, both of New Riegel; daughters, Jeanne (John) Wahrer and Denise (Tom) Powell, both of New Riegel; brother, Glenn Schlachter of Defiance; sisters, Nancy (Don) Kuhlman and Faye (Laron) Baker, both of New Riegel; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald F. Smith; brothers, and Clair Schlachter and Keith Schlachter.

Alice graduated in 1956 from New Riegel High School and worked in the cafeteria and as a custodian at New Riegel High School, retiring after many years.  She was a member of All Saints Parish, New Riegel, New Riegel Moose Lodge #872 and enjoyed farming with her husband, traveling all over the World, going on cruises, camping in Oak Harbor and Florida, bowling, puzzles, crosswords, boating, watching NASCAR races, going out to eat and visiting with friends at the Moose

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at All Saints Parish, New Riegel with Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 5-8:00 P.M. on Friday, May 29, 2020 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424.

The family of Alice understands and appreciates if you are not able to attend visitation or Mass.
