Veronica Anne Griffis was a lifelong resident of Tiffin, Ohio and deeply loved her family, friends and canine companions. Anne, as most knew her by, passed peacefully during the evening of May 7, 2020 after a brief illness and joins her husband of 61 years, Dr. Dale W. Griffis who passed on February 16th, this year.
She was born in 1937 to Dr. Edmund and Veronica Ley and as a child enjoyed her summers at Lake Mohawk and their life in the big house on South Washington Street. Anne followed her father into the medical field and graduated as a nurse from St. Elizabeth in Dayton. She then returned to Tiffin to marry Dale and began her nursing career. When her father’s health began to fail, she quit her job and helped her beloved father in his practice until he passed.
If you knew Anne, it is safe to say that you appreciated her sense of humor, that she loved to read, that she adored dogs including the four they adopted, and that there would always be a place saved for you at the dinner table.
She leaves behind family and friends, who fight back the tears while remembering the funny stories about cross-country family trips, summers on Lake Erie and holidays that generated memories with the Santa who always made house calls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister, Mary Murray. She is survived by her sister Julie Essick and by her children Lisa M. Griffis, Lynn A. Frankart and Dale W. Griffis, II. Her grandchildren John and Sam Frankart (children of Lynn and Jim), Benjamin Griffis, his wife Raquel, Cody and Casie Griffis, (children of Dale and his wife, Coco). Most recently, she made room in her generous heart for her first great grandchild, Colton Frankart (child of Sam and Laura Frankart).
There will be a private visitation for the family and a graveside service Saturday, May 16, 2020 at 11:30 AM at Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family would request in lieu of any flowers that any donations be made to the Seneca County Humane Society (Dale and Anne’s life-long love has been the companionship of dogs looking for a fur-ever home).
Everybody who is already upstairs, get ready…..you have a real firecracker on the way up to you.
Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family.
Condolences may be sent and the guestbook signed at www.hgmackfuneralhome.com.
