C. Richard “C.R.” Roberts, 86, of Tiffin, passed away Wednesday evening, September 16, 2020 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.
On May 19, 1934 in Tiffin, he was born to Richard M. and Bernice (Yundt) Roberts. He married Eula Belle Breeding on September 8, 1956 and she preceded him in death in 1979. He married Marylou Mills on November 19, 1979 and she survives in Tiffin.
Survivors include his children, Randy L. (Angie) Roberts of rural Tiffin; Karen A. (Jodi) Janetski of Galena; Linda K. (Rodney) Moyer and Barry E. Mills both of Tiffin; five grandchildren, Barbara (Alvin) Hess of Tiffin; Robert (Sabrina) Robenalt of Tiffin; Mackenzie (Braden) Nagel of Republic; Luke Moyer and Brooke Moyer both of Tiffin and five great grandchildren, Gaige, Benjamin, Oliver, and Annabelle Hess, Hazely Robenalt and two step grandchildren, Nathaniel Heil of Tiffin and Lauren Bair of Findlay.
He attended Tiffin Columbian High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959 at Fort Hood Texas along with Elvis Presley. His 50 year law enforcement career included time as a patrolman with the Tiffin Police Department, a sergeant with the Seneca County Sheriff's Department, and bailiff & probation officer with Tiffin Municipal Court. While a road deputy he was called to a broken down tour bus and that's how he met BoxCar Willie. They became close friends until BoxCar Willie's passing. He left the sheriff's department when Judge Tom Spellerberg asked him to serve as his bailiff & probation officer. He worked full-time until he retired on June 30, 2014 at the age of 80.
C.R. enjoyed traveling to Nashville, out West and to Texas. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Graveside Services will be Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 12:00 PM at St. Jacobs Cemetery in Republic with military honors by the United Veterans Council.
Memorial contributions may be made to FACT (Financial Assistance for Cancer Treatment) or to the Seneca County Humane Society.
