Donald G. “Don” Nye, 93, of New Riegel, passed away on Tuesday morning, September 22, 2020 at The Willows at Tiffin.
He was born on December 19, 1926, in Alvada, Ohio to Cyril and Germaine (Gosche) Nye. On July 31, 1948, in St. Boniface Catholic Church, he married Edna M. “Honey” Elchert and she preceded him in death on November 17, 2014.
Survivors include his sons, Dale (Dawn) Nye and Roger (Maryann) Nye, both of New Riegel; daughters, Carolyn (Carl) Schalk of New Riegel, Bonnie (Stephen) Hohman of McCutchenville and Regina (Dave) Wagner of Alvada; sons-in-law, Ken (Linda) Bowers of Tiffin and Florian Reinhart of Fostoria; brother, Richard (Rosie) Nye of Alvada; sisters, Mary Lou Weinandy of Carey, Idella Reinhart and Eloise (Lewis) Reinhart, both of Fostoria, Donna (Gene) Wagner of Alvada, Theresa (Ralph) Szyblewski of Tiffin; and Sharon (Marvin) Hohman of Tiffin; 29 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Jane Bowers and Linda Reinhart; brothers, Delbert Nye, Cyril Nye, Jr. and Carl Nye; and sisters, Berneida Lichtle and Shirley Daniel.
Don retired from ITT/Sterling and was a member of All Saints Parish, New Riegel. He had a strong Catholic faith, sang in the church choir for 13 years at St. Peter’s and enjoyed farming, home brewing, making cider, eating popcorn, being outdoors, cutting wood, dancing, singing, watching Westerns, Andy Griffin and Mayberry. Don loved spending time with his family, had a soft heart and loved singing “You are my sunshine” to his wife.
His Funeral Mass will be at 11 A.M. on Friday, September 25, 2020 at All Saints Parish, New Riegel with Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. The Mass will be livestreamed at allsaints-parish.com. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.
Due to Covid-19, the family will not be receiving visitors, but the casket will be open from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass on Friday at Church.
