Donald Shutt Obituary

Donald W. Shutt, 97, of Tiffin, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 in Bridge Hospice Care Center of Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay.

He was born on March 24, 1921, in Seneca County, to Lester W. and Pearl Mae (Zellner) Shutt.  On June 21, 1946, he married Mary M. Knickle, in First United Church of Christ in Marion, Ohio and she preceded him in death on May 21, 1991.

Survivors include his sons, Allen W. (Janet K.) Shutt and Stephen M. (Janet A.) Shutt; daughter, Joan E. (Richard) Shook, all of Tiffin; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and another due in January 2019.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marjorie Russell.

Mr. Shutt was a 1939 graduate of Bloomville High School and a 1941 graduate and basketball player at Tiffin Business University.  He was employed in Youngstown for a year and a half before serving three and a half years in the United States Navy during World War II.  He served in the Pacific Theater on Guam and Tinian Islands. 

After serving his country, he was employed for 37 years at General Electric in Tiffin, retiring in 1983.  He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Tiffin, Mid-Day Fellowship, United Commercial Travelers, Advisory Board of the Salvation Army and the GESOT of General Electric.

He enjoyed playing pool at the Allen Eiry Center, playing up to the week before his passing, and took many trips through the center.  He was honored in November of 2015 to lay the wreath at the dedication of the Bloomville Veterans Memorial.

His funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with Rev. Eric D. Rummel officiating.  Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bloomville.

Friends may visit with the family from 5-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ or to the Allen Eiry Center.
