Eugene F. Kauffman

Eugene F. “Gene” Kauffman, 91, of Tiffin, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Mercy Health–Tiffin Hospital.  

He was born on January 12, 1929, in Alvada, Ohio, to William and Lucy (Fraley) Kauffman.  On October 23, 1948, in St. Mary Catholic Church, he married Phyllis A. Ranker and she preceded him in death on June 12, 2017.

Survivors include his sons, Steve (Trudy) Kauffman and Rick (Patty) Kauffman, both of Tiffin; daughters, Sharon (Tom) Faris and Sue Kauffman, both of Tiffin and Sandy Gernert of Bloomville; sister, Mary Stover of Tiffin; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and three great, great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carl, Paul, Joe, Don and Infant, Francis ; sisters, Rosemary Clouse, Esther Kauffman, Ruth Durdel, Rita Hoover, Helen Topel and Clara Kramer; son-in-law, Greg Gernert; and granddaughter, Denise Kauffman.

Gene graduated in 1947 from Tiffin Calvert High School, was the sales manager at Ward “Tip Top” Baking Company from 1954-1978, sales rep. at Velvet Ice Cream Co., in Bucyrus, from 1978-1994 and drove for Reineke Ford until he was 87 years old, becoming their oldest errand boy ever.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, life member of Knights of Columbus #608, former member of the Elks and enjoyed volunteering for Church festivals, golfing, bowling, playing pinochle and playing pool at Allen Eiry.

His Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, December 28, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating and will be livestreamed at https://boxcast.tv/view/gene-kauffman-funeral-e9vexruytbqv3tsqp5lo.  A Rosary will be prayed 30 minutes prior to Mass.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Allen Eiry Senior Center, Calvert Catholic Schools or to Stein Hospice.
