Gaylen Kline Obituary

Gaylen Otto Kline, of Tiffin, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Dec 21, 2021, at The Willows of Tiffin. He was 86 years old.

Born Aug.30, 1935, in Chatfield Ohio, to Otto and Alice (Bayer) Kline.  Gaylen was an Engineering Graduate of Ohio University Athens Ohio.  On Feb. 12, 1956, he married Beverly Wurts who predeceased Gaylen in January 2021. 

They are survived by two daughters, Christy (Barry) Gordon of Maumee and Micki Alspach of Tiffin; two sons, Mark (Janet) Kline of Tiffin and Alan Kline of Texas; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and brother, Duane (Charlene) Kline of Marion Ohio.

Gaylen was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army (1958 to 1960) in the 1st Calvary Engineering Unit stationed in South Korea. Upon his return from active duty, Gaylen was employed by National Machinery of Tiffin Ohio. During his employment Gaylen developed several registered patents. He retired from the National after 36 years of dedicated service.

As a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Gaylen sang in the choir, served on several committees, worked with the Sharing Kitchen and helped in maintenance refinishing projects for the church. He was active on several mission trips working in Kentucky and Mississippi rebuilding/repairing homes in rural areas.

For over 20 years, Gaylen worked with Habitat for Humanity building homes in the Tiffin area. He also had a passion for Genealogy and spent years researching family histories and also completed extensive research for the Seneca County Genealogy Society and the Rutherford B. Hayes Memorial Library. His hobbies included woodworking, wood carving, fishing and gardening.

We honor him for his heart to serve; God, Country and others before himself. 

His Funeral Service will be at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424 with Pastor Charlene Thomas officiating.  Burial will follow in Attica-Venice Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the American Legion Post 260, Attica.

Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Funeral on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church or to Habitat for Humanity.
