Gerald J. Tiell, 92, of Tiffin, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022 at Mercy Health-Tiffin Hospital.
He was born in rural New Riegel on April 30, 1930 to Frank and Adeline (Rogier) Tiell. On March 22, 1955, in Wiesbaden, Germany, he married Christel W. Neuhoff who preceded him in death on December 21, 2011.
Survivors include his three daughters, Maria A. Amadeo and Susi L.(Larry Sharp) Bain, both of Tiffin and Joan C. Saleh of Columbus; sister, Mrs. Mary Frisch of Tiffin; four grandchildren, Angela (Craig) Miller, Dominick (Alex) Amadeo, Richard Bain and Daniel Bain; and five great grandchildren, Francesca Miller, Mackenzie Amadeo, Luke Miller, Jazmyn Bain and Anthony Amadeo.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ernest J. Tiell; and sisters, Agnes C. Ward and Oleta Mae Reinhart.
Gerald retired from the United States Army after 20 years of Service. He served in Germany, France and Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin Moose #846 and a life member of New Riegel American Legion #350 and the Tiffin VFW Post #2858. Gerald also worked at the American Standard Plant in Tiffin for 21 years and volunteered for many years at Ecumencial Sharing Kitchen at St. Paul's and at the American Red Cross Blood Mobile Drive.
A Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, May 27, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Zybka officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 30 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the New Riegel American Legion.
