Gervase J. Craig, 94, of Tiffin, passed away on Monday, February 28, 2022 at Mercy Health-St. Vincent Medical Center.
She was born on September 3, 1927, in New Riegel, Ohio, to Alphonse and Catherine (Reinhart) Schalk. On January 31, 1948, she married William Craig and he preceded her in death in 2007.
Survivors include her sons, Michael (Brad Watson) Craig of Oakland CA and Douglas (Carol) Craig of Charleston, SC; daughters, Jacqulyn (Brenda Brown) Craig of Millville, NJ, Michelle Craig of Tiffin, Jane (Kelly) Caudill of Hudson, NH and Georgia (Michael Bowden) Craig of Sunbury; brother, Raymond (Annie) Schalk of Findlay; sister, Rose Smith of Tiffin; 10 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Patrick Joseph Craig; daughter, Rebecca Lou Craig and infant daughter, Cathy Lou Craig; five brothers, Bruno Schalk, George Schalk, Simon Schalk, Florus Schalk and Arthur Schalk; and four sisters, Rita Wurm, Irene Elchert, Marie Scherger and Alice Nye.
Gervase was a 1945 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Tiffin’s Women of the Moose. As a young woman enjoyed ceramics and colorizing black and white photos. She was a Breast Cancer Survivor, Cleveland Indians fan, Euchre Champion, Skip-Bo player, liked “farming”, flowers and family visits, as long as it wasn’t before noon.
Her Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Matthew Rader officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 30 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 4-7:00 P.M. on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Time of Reflection will begin at 7:00 P.M. with Pastor Chad Hogue, Gervase’s grandaughter’s husband officiating. The family requests everyone wear red, Gervase's favorite color.
